Our editorial standards, in plain English.

What we are
Morning Courier is an independent daily email newsletter for British cities, beginning with Bristol. We are not a news agency and we do not employ reporters; we are an editorial publication that reads what the city's journalists have reported, chooses what matters, and writes it up briefly and originally for our readers, alongside the forecast, listings, a community block and a puzzle.
How we write the news
Every summary in Morning Courier is our own. We do not reproduce, excerpt or closely paraphrase anyone else's article. Each morning we read the public feeds of the outlets covering the city, pick the handful of stories our readers need, write our own headline and a short factual summary, and credit and link the original report.
The point is to tell you what is going on and send you to the people who reported it. Local journalism is the thing we depend on, so we are careful to point readers towards it rather than away from it.
Writing process and use of AI
Morning Courier is produced with human editorial judgement and modern writing tools, including AI-assisted drafting. Story selection and the editorial guidelines are a person's job; the tools help us keep the writing consistent and short. A human is in the loop on every edition. If anything reads wrongly or gets a fact wrong, email nathan@morningcourier.co.uk and we will correct it.
Attribution
Every story names the outlet that reported it and links to the original. Those links are marked rel="nofollow": we are crediting the source, not borrowing its search ranking.
Sources
We draw on the public RSS feeds of UK news organisations — the BBC, the national papers and the local titles and broadcasters covering each city — together with council, venue, museum and community listings for events. We have no commercial relationship with any of them.
Independence and advertising
Editorial decisions are made without regard to advertisers. A sponsor never sees a story before it runs and never influences what we cover. Anything paid for is labelled as such. See our advertising policy for what we will and will not carry.
Affiliate links
We do not currently use affiliate links. If we ever do, this page will say where and how they are marked, and a commission will never be the reason something is recommended.
Corrections and complaints
Morning Courier is not a member of IPSO or Impress; complaints come directly to the editor. If we have got something wrong, email nathan@morningcourier.co.uk with the date of the edition and the item. We correct errors promptly and say so in a following edition where the error was material.
Content disputes
Publishers or creators who believe Morning Courier has used their material in a way that infringes their rights should write to nathan@morningcourier.co.uk identifying the item. Good-faith requests are reviewed promptly and content is amended or removed where appropriate.
